MEXICO: SWIMMING WITH WHALE SHARKS

esta

Hi guys! How are you? The weekend is close ;)
Today I show you a very special and different post that I wanted to share with you. Our first excursion in Mexico and certainly the most wanted for us, swim with whale sharks.
Although you can see this animal in some parts of the planet, one of the places with more sightings is the Mexican Caribbean. The only thing to keep in mind is that this excursion can't be done during all year, only when there is the emigration of the whale shark, from May to September.
We were aware of this fact and that is why we did our best to travel before the end of the season (the 15th of September) and it was the first excursion we went. We stayed in Mexico from the 10th to the 22th of September, so after a day of rest to beat the "jet-lag" of the trip, it was our first adventure.
Before traveling to Mexico we had talked by WhatsApp with David from Experiencias Riviera Maya about the tours we wanted to hire and he helped us a lot. We found this web by chance on the internet and it was where we hired the three excursions that we did (the fourth was hired in the hotel and we had a bad experience, but I'll tell you in another post). We chose a package of 3 excursions because it was cheaper, package 3 in case you want to see it. We were delighted with their kidness, punctuality and the way of working that this company has. I totally recommend it if you are planning to travel there. In addition the payment of the excursions is realized after and not before. I want to write a post with useful tips, but now finally I'm going to tell you what I felt with this experience.
I can't remember exactly when they came to pick us up at the hotel, but it was before 7 in the morning. When we arrived at reception they were waiting for us, they were very punctual. We went to pick up some people more to other resorts and in the end we got a group of 10 people. We went to the port and they gave us cake, coffee and orange juice for breakfast. The cake was delicious. Before that, we had bought a box of pills to avoid get sick during the boat trip  (all of us shared the box). We take advantage to put sunsreen (mine factor 50, like you could imagine...) as during the excursion is banned because we can contaminate the water and alter the health of the fauna.
After a little more than half an hour by boat we started to see the first specimens. It was the first time I saw one and I was amazed about how beautiful and big they were.
For about two hours we jumped into the water in pairs to be able to swim with these gorgeous animals. My boy and I were the second to jump. Good, I thought! I had time to calm down while the first couple was in the water because my hands were sweating to think about it. It was our turn. It seems easy but the boat was constantly moving looking for sharks and at you had to jump in the exact moment with the boat moving and you have to start swimming... First my boyfriend was thrown into the water and shortly afterwards it was me. I didn't think anything (better because if I begin to imagine what I could find in the depths of the ocean... haha), I jumped into the water and started to swim moving my flippers like I was crazy. At first I didn't see anything, just bubbles because the "kicking" of my boy who was ahead. But I kept swimming and swimming until suddenly I started to see white dots under me and indeed, it was a whale shark. I remember yelling to my boyfriend "record me, record me" because he had the GoPro. Our turn ended and we went to the boat until the next round.
I enjoyed the second round  much more because I went first to the water (this time he "ate" the bubbles of my "kick" haha). We were able to swim with several sharks because they were swimming "slowly" and we had a great time.
The third round came and several couples no longer wanted to repeat more times because they were tired (the truth is that following these animals is exhasuting). This time we were the last.
We saw a shark, we went into the water but it swam so fast and it was impossible to follow it. We floated in the water a bit waiting for another. Yes, another shark appeared but it swam even faster than the previous one... We were having very bad luck this time... But suddenly one appeared, and one more... We were swimming with two whale sharks at the same time, among them. What adrenaline, how beautiful and how magical. But this didn't finish there... From the boat some people shouted "stingray". There was a beautiful stingray behind us, but shortly after that, another stingray followed it. We were surrounded by beautiful animals. You had to see me swimming with all my strength following them to admire them as long as possible. It was exhausted.
We were the most envied of the boat haha. But shortly after go up on the boat we could see another shark, but not exactly a whale shark, one shark with teeth... If it had appeared a few minutes before... hahaha.
After this adventure we went to Isla Mujeres, we ate a delicious fish ceviche, and relaxed before come back to the hotel.
It was a perfect day and one of the most beautiful experiences of my life!
Sorry for publish so many photos and write so much but... when you love something and we live  it intensely, you want to share even the smallest detail...
Have you lived this experience? Tell me!
I hope that you like the post and have a great day. Many kisses.

¡Hola chicos!
Muchos besos.
