GRAND BASSIN

Hello family! How are you? After spending a week in Galicia and Porto, we are at home. But before telling us all our adventures there, I want to show you a post about when we were in Mauritius, more specifically visiting the Grand Bassin.
Ganga Talao Lake (known as Grand Bassin) has a similar meaning to the believers than Ganges River of India. According to a legend, the God Shiva fell in love with Mauritius so much that he spilled some drops of water from the Ganges River on this lake.
Beyond its beauty, this place is a meeting point for the believers that come daily to make offerings to the gods. It is very common to find flowers, fruits and incense sticks surrounding the lake.
If you are driving near this area, from several meters back you can see a statue of Shiva of more than thirty meters. Once there, before entering, it is very common to be surrounded by dozens of monkeys. A Mauritian man told us that they were there because people gave them food (and also robbed them from the offerings).
He also taught us how putting your hand closed the monkeys came and opened it thinking that there were food inside. We did it several times and it was very fun.
It is incredible the smell of incense that can be breathed and the sensation of peace. I wish that you could perceive it with only a photo! We arrived there at 3:00 p.m. (at 6:00 p.m.is dark) and there were only local people and a couple from India with whom we had a brief conversation and they asked us to take a picture together.
While we were walking around the lake, we saw a family throwing pieces of bread in the lake and  we shyly approached them. We had also seen several cats roaming the area. The key was that when people was throwing the bread, the fish approached the shore and it was the time when the cats took advantage of the occasion and fished their food. Never before had I seen a cat fishing in the water (you can see a photo below). It was a surprise!
And you, did you know this amazing place? Tell us! :)

¡Hola familia!
¡Contadnos! :)
